Frequently Asked Questions
Where you can see BPS-TV:
If you have Bright House Networks cable with a digital converter box, tune to channel 198.
If you have Bright House Networks cable without a digital tuner box you will need a “digital ready” TV. Most TV’s sold since 2007 are digital ready. Check your TV set owners manual for details. If your set is digital ready and cable TV is connected to it, tune your set to channel 78-11 to see BPS-TV. On some sets BPS-TV may show up on channel 99-1. If your TV does not have a digital tuner built in you will need to rent a digital converter box from Bright House Networks for $1.00 per month. Call Bright House Networks at 1-866-309-3279 for more information or if you are having trouble receiving BPS-TV.
If you do not have Bright House Networks cable in your home and you receive local television signals via an outdoor antenna or indoor “rabbit ears”, and your TV has a digital tuner built in, look for BPS-TV on channel 68-3. This also applies to Direct TV and Dish Network customers who also use an antenna to receive local channels. If your TV does not have a digital tuner you will need a digital tuner box available at most retail electronics stores. Please be aware that on February 17, 2009 all televisions will require a digital tuner to receive “over-the-air” broadcast signals. This change only affects viewers who receive TV signals with an outdoor antenna or indoor “rabbit ears”, not cable TV or satellite TV subscribers. For more information visit www.dtvanswers.com
Q. What about HDTV?
A. HDTV stands for High Definition Television, which produces images and sounds equal to or better than DVD’s. To experience true HDTV, you need an HDTV television.
Q. I have a satellite dish (DISH Network or Direct TV). Can I watch BPS-TV?
A. No. Unlike local cable companies, satellite TV providers have no government requirement to serve the public by providing a local educational or government access channel to the community. Under these systems you would need to install a DTV antenna in addition to your dish. Then you could watch BPS-TV (on channel 68.3) and all of the other Central Florida channels that broadcast in DTV.
Q. What if I don’t get cable or satellite TV?
A. Almost all schools in Brevard County receive cable TV, so you may be able to make arrangements to watch a BPS-TV show at your local school. Contact the principal for more details.
Q. How can I get a copy of a BPS-TV show?
A. Copies of school board meetings can be requested by calling 633-1000, ext. 405. For other programs, certain copyright restrictions may prevent us from making a copy. However, you may record any of our shows at home for your own personal use.
Q. Are there internship opportunities available at BPS-TV?
A. BPS-TV is not currently offering paid internships. If you are a high school or college student who would like to volunteer for unpaid internship opportunities, please call 433-7287.
Q. How can I give feedback on BPS-TV?
A. Contact our Customer Service Center at 633-1000, ext. 500 or email csc@brevard.k12.fl.us
